Gallagher acquires KROSE
A&O Shearman has advised the publicly listed U.S. company Arthur J. Gallagher & Co (Gallagher), a global insurance brokerage, risk management and consulting firm, in connection with the acquisition of KROSE GmbH & Co. KG (KROSE). The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Headquartered in Bremen, KROSE was established in 1920 and partners with large international blue-chip clients across Germany. It provides international commercial insurance and reinsurance solutions and specializes in the design and placement of complex programs working collaboratively with in-house risk managers and insurance departments at large corporates.

Dr. Oliver Cullmann, Leopold Muhle and Urs Gottwald continue to lead KROSE as managing directors in addition to Dr. Andreas Keller, who will also become a managing director.

Gallagher already has teams operating from Germany with a number of its pan-European leadership team members based in the country, a team of over 50 specializing in reinsurance operating primarily from Munich, and Cologne-based Köberich Financial Lines GmbH & Co. KG, which Gallagher acquired in early 2024. A&O Shearman (then Allen & Overy) also advised Gallagher on this transaction.

This latest acquisition will see the teams work closely together to expand Gallagher's client offering in Germany and further in continental Europe.

The A&O Shearman team was jointly led by partner Dr. Jan Schröder and counsel Dr. Achim Schmid, supported by senior associate Dr. Saber Baratzadeh and associate Robin Petschenka (all Corporate/M&A/Insurance Corporate Law, all Düsseldorf).
