Pure DC secures landmark hyperscale data centre site in Amsterdam Westpoort
A&O Shearman has advised Pure Data Centres Group (Pure DC), a leading designer, developer, and operator of hyperscale cloud and AI data centers, on the acquisition of a landmark 78MW three-tower data center development in the Amsterdam Westpoort harbor.
Pure DC has signed Europe’s largest standalone hyperscale data center lease of 2025 and will invest over EUR1 billion to develop the site, with financing secured from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC). Construction is expected to commence in January 2026.

Our team provided fully integrated, cross-practice support on all key aspects of the transaction, including the long-term leasehold for the Westpoort site, permitting strategy, grid connection, construction, and regulatory and tax structuring, clearing the path from acquisition to build.

Partner Pieter Tieskens commented: “Securing Pure DC’s landmark hyperscale site in Amsterdam Westpoort, backed by Europe’s largest standalone hyperscale lease of 2025, demonstrates how A&O Shearman’s cross-practice team can deliver end-to-end execution on complex, grid-enabled digital infrastructure that will power the next wave of cloud and AI growth.”

The matter was led by partner Pieter Tieskens, and supported by a cross-practice A&O Shearman team including:
