Techem acquires a majority stake in inexogy
A&O Shearman has advised Techem in connection with the acquisition of a majority stake in inexogy smart metering (inexogy), one of Germany's largest competitive metering point operators.

Techem's completed investment in inexogy includes a growth path for the next five years. Within this framework, EUR320 million will be invested in the installation and operation of smart metering systems. The aim is to use data from 1.5 million smart metering systems to make the energy system more efficient and sustainable in the coming years.

Techem contributes its many years of experience in digitalization, decarbonization, and energy efficiency, as well as an international portfolio of more than 13 million apartments. With Techem's financial support, inexogy will significantly expand its existing partner business in areas such as dynamic tariffs and prosumers, and support network operators in equipping their network areas entirely with smart metering systems.

Other key areas of focus for the partnership include tapping into new, shared customer segments, for example in the residential and commercial real estate, industrial buildings, and retail sectors, as well as further expanding Techem's digital platform. This platform provides the housing industry with all the data relating to real estate in one central location and will also comprehensively integrate metering point operation in the future. This enables Techem to offer comprehensive decarbonization solutions such as tenant electricity models and EV charging as a service provider. This results in integrated complete solutions, and the platform enables the efficient and scalable implementation of the smart meter rollout and the integration of controllable consumption devices.

Techem, headquartered in Eschborn, is a leading service provider for smart and sustainable buildings. The company's services cover the topics of energy management and resource conservation, healthy living and process efficiency in properties. Founded in 1952, Techem is now active in 18 countries with over 4,200 employees and services more than 13 million dwellings.

inexogy is a competitive metering point operator based in Saarlouis and has been installing and operating smart metering systems nationwide for 13 years. By operating an interoperable gateway platform for high-resolution data, all relevant use cases related to metering point operation are covered. The company’s customers include municipal utilities, energy suppliers, grid operators, photovoltaic companies, mobile network providers, and the real estate industry.
