A&O Shearman guides EQT on acquisition of Copia Power

A&O Shearman advised EQT investment funds on their acquisition of Copia Power, a leading integrated power and AI infrastructure platform, from global investment firm Carlyle.

The acquisition unites EQT’s global infrastructure investment platform with Copia Power’s proven development capabilities across large-scale power generation, energy storage, and digital infrastructure. Copia develops integrated energy campuses that bring generation, high-voltage transmission, and data center load together at a single interconnection position — a differentiated approach that enables AI infrastructure growth on an accelerated timeline.

The transaction aligns with EQT’s focus on investing behind the infrastructure underpinning global demand for artificial intelligence and supporting energy security, and expands EQT’s growing U.S. portfolio of AI infrastructure investments spanning data centers, energy, and fiber connectivity through companies including EdgeConneX, Zayo, Cypress Creek Energy, and Scale. The acquisition also marks an anchor investment for EQT’s newly launched Infrastructure VII fund.

EQT is a purpose-driven global investment organization with EUR269 billion in total assets under management as of March 31, 2026, owning portfolio companies and assets across Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Americas.

“We are delighted to have worked once again with EQT on such a landmark infrastructure transaction. This deal captures the growing strategic value of platforms that unite power development, infrastructure investment, and the accelerating demand driving the energy transition.”
