Virginia's practice focuses on representing companies, financial institutions, board members, and executives in complex civil and criminal investigations and litigation. Virginia's practice also focuses on antitrust and complex commercial litigation.

Prior to joining Shearman & Sterling, Virginia represented a wide range of clients from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies at a San Francisco litigation boutique, focusing mainly on intellectual property litigation. Prior to working in private practice, Virginia was an Assistant District Attorney in the Anchorage District Attorney's Office, where she handled criminal matters ranging from violent crime—including homicide—to financial crime, including embezzlement. Virginia has extensive experience presenting complex cases to a grand jury and has an undefeated trial record.

Representative matters

In 2023, Virginia led the briefing on summary judgment in the matter Viasat, Inc. v. Acacia Communications, Inc., No. 19-60731 (Super. Ct. S.D. Cnty.), resulting in a historic award of $97 million.

Beginning in 2022, Virginia represented Google against claims of patent infringement across a wide variety of software and devices. In 2023, Virginia successfully moved to exclude the opinions of plaintiff's damages expert under Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
