Tim Sweerts
Tim specializes in complex litigation and dispute resolution, with particular emphasis on class actions, corporate disputes, and ESG litigation.

Tim has extensive experience defending major class actions involving consumer protection, miss-selling, data privacy, antitrust, securities litigation, and mass discrimination claims. He has deep expertise in proceedings under the Dutch Act on Collective Actions (WAMCA) and the broader European collective redress landscape. He has secured high-profile wins in several landmark class actions in the Netherlands for large corporations and financial institutions, and advises clients on collective settlement strategies. Tim is part of the firm's global class action group, an award-winning author, and a regular speaker on mass litigation and class actions. He coordinates multijurisdictional publications on class actions in Europe and contributes thought leadership through peer-reviewed publications, guest lectures, and panel discussions in New York, London, and Amsterdam.

Tim's corporate disputes practice focuses on representing corporations and directors in M&A disputes, corporate governance litigation, securities litigation, and shareholder class actions. He provides on- and off-deal litigation support across public and private corporate disputes. Notably, he successfully defended the first court-tested pre-wired asset sale after a public offer in the Netherlands in mass shareholder litigation, and defended the Netherlands' leading telecom provider in enquiry proceedings before the Enterprise Chamber of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal. Tim also regularly advises clients in pre-litigation dispute resolution.

As part of his ESG litigation practice, Tim advises on litigation risk relating to disclosures, climate plans, green claims and greenwashing, climate change, and other high-impact sustainability issues, collaborating with specialists in corporate reporting and regulatory matters.

With the Netherlands emerging as a key gateway for European mass litigation, Tim actively contributes to cross-border class action mandates across the firm, leveraging cross-practice capabilities to serve clients on complex, high-stakes matters. Tim graduated with honors and cum laude in Civil Law and Company Law from Utrecht University, the Netherlands. He attended the National University of Singapore and is an INSEAD alumnus (MAPB'21).
