Patrick helps leading global players in the APAC syndicated loans and private credit markets navigate complex, cross-border financings, with a strong focus on Greater China.

He partners with banks and non-bank lenders to tailor bespoke debt solutions for borrowers in multiple industries and asset classes, catering to their different liquidity needs. He has over 18 years of regional deal experience in all types of debt financings, from corporate lending and fund finance to acquisition, securities-backed, real estate and event-driven loans. He is widely recognised as one of APAC’s leading fund finance lawyers and a frequent speaker and contributor at finance industry events and conferences in the region.

Experience

Representative matters

A syndicate of banks as lenders on the USD3.32bn sustainability-linked subscription line facility for parallel funds managed by EQT Private Capital Asia. This was the biggest sustainability-linked fund finance facility in APAC at the time with 12 banks participating in the syndicate.

A club of private credit lenders on the USD300m secured term loan facility for Loka Holdings, the parent company which operates Traveloka, Southeast Asia’s largest online travel and lifestyle app at the time. The facility was one of the first private credit transactions in APAC done with a participating club of non-bank private credit lenders.

A syndicate of lenders led by a bulge bracket investment bank on a US$160m secured term loan facility for Ha Noi Thien Y Environmental Energy JSC, a Vietnamese subsidiary of China Tianying Inc., which operates Vietnam’s largest waste to energy plant located in Hanoi. The facility was the first of its kind in the capital city and was expected to convert 4,000 tons of dry waste into energy every day.

Gaw Capital Partners on the HK$3bn term and revolving loan facilities for a vehicle owned by its Gateway Fund VI which was secured by a mortgage over a 26-storey commercial tower in Hong Kong’s North Point area. The facility was made available by a syndicate of banks in Hong Kong which required the loan facilities to be utilised in compliance with the Green Loan Principles issued by the Asia Pacific Loan Market Association.

Pro bono

Advising m-Chinese Solution Limited a social enterprise incorporated in Hong Kong, in connection with an impact loan to be entered into with UBS Optimus Foundation.
