Lorenz is a transactional tax generalist whose practice focuses on the taxation of financial institutions and instruments, private credit and direct lending, debt restructuring, domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and minority investments as well as financings, securitizations and capital markets transactions.

He regularly advises major financial institutions, sovereign investors, hedge funds, private equity funds, family offices and domestic and multinational companies and is ranked in Chambers USA as “Up and Coming” and in Legal 500 USA as “Next-Generation Partner.”

He is a member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association Tax Section, Chair of the Financial Institutions and Products Committee of the American Bar Association and a member of Tax Forum. He regularly speaks on and moderates panels for industry organizations including the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Wall Street Tax Association, the Institute of International Bankers and the International Tax Institute.

From 2012 to 2013, he served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Patrick Higginbotham on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

  • Non-U.S. banks in various U.S. commercial mortgage loan restructurings.
  • Brazilian airline Azul S.A. in connection with a comprehensive USD2.25b debt restructuring.
  • Sovereign and private bond issuers, underwriters and dealer-managers in various complex debt restructurings and liability management transactions.

  • Mubadala in the expansion of its global partnership with Apollo to support the Apollo Capital Solutions business and in various other credit platforms, JVs, co-investments, fund investments and transactions.
