Joachim is a senior advisor to the financial regulatory team.
He works with major international clients across jurisdictions on strategic regulatory matters. He has practised in public and private financial institutions for many years. Having been the head of supervision at Deutsche Bundesbank he brings in the prospect of a supervisor in terms of strategy, procedure and substance: How to deal with and adresse the authorities. Joachim has a specific expertise in digital innovation in finance and advises on new legal issues in these areas. Joachim has gained a broad and deep experience in the public sector. Until recently he used to be member of the board of Deutsche Bundesbank with the responsibility for banking supervision, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanisms of the European Central Bank, a member of the Basel Committee for Banking Supervisions and a member of the German Committee for Financial Stability. Before, he gained wide experience in politics on the EU, the federal and the regional level. He served inter alia as a Member of the European Parliament and a Secretary of State in the federal government. Joachim is an Executive in Residence at the European School of Management and Technology in Berlin with the focus on digital finance. Since 1995 he has taught as a visiting lecturer, first at the University of Bayreuth, then at the University of Potsdam, where he was awarded an honorary professorship in 2011.
