Ed Jackson

Senior Associate

Ed advises a mixture of trustees and employers on their pension arrangements across a variety of industries. He has significant experience in advising in respect of pensions issues relating to M&A.

He advises clients on strategic projects including business restructurings, closures, liability management exercises and de-risking together with day-to-day regulatory and compliance matters.

Ed has significant experience in advising in respect of the pensions aspects of M&A, including regarding the Pensions Regulator’s criminal and moral hazard powers, s.75 debt issues, notifiable events and apportionment / withdrawal arrangements. Ed has spoken at industry conferences and training events and is organising the 2024 APL conference in Brussels.

Experience

Representative matters

A manufacturing company in respect of the change of principal employer, creation of a statutory employer, entering into an FAA and new guarantee.

Trustees of separate multi-billion pound schemes in respect of two longevity swap arrangements, with aggregate £15bn of pension liabilities.

Clients (employer and trustee side) in respect of projects relating to strategic changes and restructurings to their asset backed funding arrangements.

Clients (employer and trustee side) in respect of the closure of their respective schemes to future accrual, navigating Courage amendment power considerations, consultation obligations and liaising with Unions.

A trustee in respect of separate projects involving it becoming the trustee of two additional pension schemes (aggregate assets of around £5 billion).

Clients (employer and trustee side) in respect of transferring to a Master Trust. 

Co-ordinating a number of multi-jurisdictional transactions in respect of pensions liability issues.
