Aukera closes EUR460 million credit facility supporting its European energy infrastructure portfolio

Aukera closes EUR460 million credit facility supporting its European energy infrastructure portfolio

A&O Shearman has advised Aukera, a leading pan-European battery storage and renewable energy platform backed by AtlasInvest, Reggeborgh, and SFPIM (Belgium's sovereign wealth fund), on the successful closing of its EUR460m structured credit facility, for which EIG, a leading institutional investor in the global energy and infrastructure sectors, served as the lead investor.

The original facility included an initial EUR200m commitment and an accordion feature of up to EUR250m. The amended facility converts that accordion into a firmly committed EUR260m Series 2 tranche, increasing total committed capital to EUR460m.

Aukera develops, constructs, and operates renewable energy generation, battery storage, and energy infrastructure projects across its five European markets (Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, Romania, and Italy). The company currently has close to 1GW of projects in construction or operation across all of its markets. Alongside these delivery milestones, Aukera continues to advance a 14GW development pipeline of renewable energy and energy infrastructure opportunities across Europe. With the new financing in place, Aukera moves into its next phase of growth, combining capital, expertise, and delivery capability to build a significant European energy infrastructure platform that develops, finances, constructs, and operates assets at scale.

“As Europe continues its transition to a low-carbon energy system, renewables and battery storage are becoming increasingly critical components of energy infrastructure. Sophisticated, flexible financing structures play a vital role in supporting the expansion of platforms like Aukera across multiple European markets. We are proud to have once again advised our client Aukera on this landmark transaction, helping to put in place the capital framework that underpins the next phase of its growth as a leading European independent power producer.”
