What you'll do

We run two four-week Vacation Schemes in our Hong Kong office every summer, in June and July. As part of the scheme, you will gain real and valuable experience from day one, working alongside our lawyers on live deals and cases. During the four-week structured program, you will have the opportunity to sit in two practice groups for two weeks each. In each seat, you will be assigned a dedicated trainer and a trainee buddy.

In addition to your legal work, you will attend training sessions and presentations aimed at broadening your understanding of our business and helping you to develop the skills you need to be a successful commercial lawyer.

It is not all work and no play. There is plenty of time to socialize with lawyers, trainees and partners as well as the other students on your scheme, broadening your knowledge of the firm and building your network.

We take up to 25 interns each year, with a view to offering around eight top performers a Hong Kong Training Contract. The exact number of trainees we take on is dependent on business needs and the caliber of interns. The decision to extend an offer will be influenced by the feedback provided by our trainers, as well as the outcomes of the assessments conducted throughout the Vacation Scheme.

What you'll do

Our training program is meticulously designed and continually evolving to provide the foundations you need to find your strengths, overcome challenges and bring out your best self.

Your training will be based on four six-month rotations (known as ‘seats’), through a number of departments or practice areas. Seats are available across our departments (Corporate, Finance and Disputes) and will help you to discover the full range of work we do and the expertise we have in our teams. In each seat, you will sit with a trainer (usually an associate) who will supervise your professional and personal development, showing you how to excel as a successful commercial lawyer.

You will have the opportunity to express your two seat preferences shortly before the start of your Training Contract. You are guaranteed to sit in at least one of those, and many trainees sit in both (subject to business need).

Your penultimate or final seat will typically involve a six-month secondment to one of our overseas offices, which will give you the chance to grow and strengthen your network.
