Tom has been featured by the Financial Times as a leading innovative practitioner in law.
Tom is a key member of the firm’s market-leading, cross-practice and multijurisdictional AI advisory practice; he works with some of the largest companies in the world on the safe deployment of AI in their businesses, as well as on broader legal and compliance digitisation projects. Tom has also played a leading role in the development and implementation of A&O Shearman’s own AI strategy, including assessment of third-party tools, governance and risk management.
Tom was at the forefront of the development and delivery of MarginMatrix (a regulatory compliance and repapering tool, and related joint venture with Deloitte to help several global banks with the negotiation of thousands of contracts), BrexitMatrix (a workflow, document automation and outreach tool for migration of trading documentation to EU entities), IBORMatrix (a system designed to facilitate the transition away from LIBOR and other interest rates, involving an innovative approach to the use of AI), and more recently, ContractMatrix (our latest innovation, developed in partnership with Microsoft and Harvey, which uses generative AI to streamline contract drafting, review and analysis).
Tom also leads MIG’s work on the digitalisation of our clients’ legal and operational processes, with his utilities being used daily by multiple large financial institutions.
Tom’s background is in OTC derivatives and he has experience across all major asset classes.
