Sajjad Juma

Senior Associate

Sajjad advises on the full spectrum of conventional and Islamic finance transactions, new financings and debt restructurings.
He acts for sponsors, lenders, government related entities and funds on complex corporate lending, real estate finance, project finance, acquisition finance, fund finance and distressed situations in the energy, real estate, infrastructure and utilities sectors. 

He has extensive experience on cross-border transactions and has led the team on numerous multi-sourced financings involving ECAs, commercial banks, development finance institutions and Islamic financiers. Sajjad has particular expertise in the Middle East - particularly Saudi Arabia and the UAE - where he has been involved in some of the most significant financings in the region. 

After graduating from the University of Oxford in 2008, Sajjad qualified in the firm's London office in 2010 before relocating to Dubai in 2020.

Experience

Representative matters

Saudi Electricity Company on the majority of its finance transactions in the last ten years (over 20 transactions totalling more than USD20 billion involving ECAs, commercial banks and Islamic financiers). 

Lenders on the SAR14.2 billion financing of the luxury tourism project developed by the Red Sea Development Company in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Telecoms Company and its subsidiaries on multiple ECA backed financing, acquisition financing and general corporate finance transactions.

A state-owned oil company and its subsidiaries on more than ten finance transactions with its local and international lenders and ECAs (totalling more than USD10 billion) and the development of the state-owned oil company's finance template documentation. 

The financiers and ECAs on all of the facilities (totalling over USD2.5 billion) provided to Aluminum Bahrain Company (ALBA) for its Line 6 expansion project. he deals won the TXF Perfect 10 Middle East Deal of the Year.

 

 

Pro bono

Advising Cheka Sana Foundation on their registration as a charity in the UK.

Advising SolarGen on a murabaha financing for solar energy in Kenya.
