Rachel has extensive experience in high value international commercial arbitrations, advising clients on disputes particularly in the oil & gas, construction, and retail sectors under the ICC and UNCITRAL rules.
Rachel plays an active role in A&O Shearman’s Advanced Delivery Legal (ADL) team, with a particular focus on maximising cost-efficient legal solutions for the International Arbitration practice.

Representative matters

  • A global oil and gas exploration and production company in several multi-billion dollar ICC arbitrations arising from the construction of a major LNG project. Western Australian law governed EPC contract.
  • The subsidiary of a state-owned natural gas company in an ICC arbitration concerning claims in relation to the construction of a major gas pipeline in Eastern Europe. English law applied.
  • A Middle Eastern joint venture as claimant in arbitration proceedings brought under the ICC Rules in respect of defect claims related to one of the world’s largest solar PV plants. UAE law applied.
  • A multi-national chemical and refining company in its claims against a former EPC contractor under the UNCITRAL Rules in relation to the construction of an incinerator. Dutch law applied.
  • An energy company in relation to delay and defect claims (value >USD 200 million) arising out of an English law governed EPC contract for the construction of an offshore gas FPSO and related gas pipeline.
  • A European gas pipeline company in respect of claims under the English law governed EPC contract arising out of multiple alleged defects in the pipeline.
  • An investment company in an expert determination relating to a luxury retail development, defending multiple delay and disruption claims. UAE law applied.

Pro bono

  • Rachel has contributed to several pro bono initiatives, including a secondment to Warsaw in 2024 to advise Ukrainians on safe routes to the UK under the UK Home Office visa schemes. Rachel also assisted on the Family Reunion From Europe project, in collaboration with Refugee Legal Support.
