Luke holds a Ph.D. in chemistry, where his doctoral research focused on the development of industrially relevant, transition metal, catalysts for aerobic alcohol oxidation processes. He has experience working within a research laboratory and has co-authored two peer-reviewed scientific articles. Prior to commencing his Ph.D., Luke obtained a first-class honours degree in chemistry, which included a year studying at the University of Zaragoza, Spain. In addition to his scientific qualifications, Luke is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales, having completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) and the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE).
Luke has experience at all stages of the patent litigation life cycle, from pre-litigation through to trial. He has worked on matters across various disciplines, including genetics, oncology, and small molecule therapeutics. In addition, he has extensive experience in running due diligence of IP portfolios as part of corporate transactions. Luke regularly works on largescale disclosure reviews, with a focus on technical disputes matters.
Luke’s work has centred on the analysis of patents and scientific literature, monitoring competitor outputs, FTO analyses, and working with expert witnesses. In addition, Luke has worked to draft reports summarising technical issues relevant to litigation proceedings, including the development of arguments regarding patent validity and infringement. Luke has spent six months on secondment to the IP Litigation team in the A&O Shearman London office.
