Jaime is in our Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Group and regularly advises lenders, sponsors, project companies and underwriters from around the globe.

Jaime focuses on the Americas and in particular on energy and natural resources projects, and data, digital and traditional infrastructure in Latin America. He is a member of our Latin America Practice Group, specializing in transactions in the region.

Originally from Colombia, Jaime understands the cultural nuances of doing work in Latin America and has in-depth experience working as an associate at top tier law firms in the US and Colombia.

Experience

Representative matters

  • Carlyle Infrastructure Partners on the financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the redevelopment of Terminal 1 at JFK airport. The deal is the largest single-asset project financing deal in U.S. history.
  • Consortium of global lenders—a group of global financial institutions—on a landmark USD254m green project finance transaction for Scala Data Centers, a Digital Bridge portfolio company and Latin America’s leading platform for sustainable digital infrastructure. This financing supports the development of three hyperscale data centers in Curauma, Lampa, and Huechuraba, as well as a major power substation in Lampa, Chile. Notably, this marks Scala’s first structured financing outside Brazil. Named 2024 Digital Infrastructure Deal of the Year – Latin America, by IJGlobal and 2025 Digital Infrastructure Deal of the Year, Latin America, by IJGlobal.
  • Core Infrastructure Fund III SCS, a fund advised by Vauban Infrastructure Partners, in the financed acquisition of DB Energy Assets, LLC and Beacon Energy Holdings LLC, that collectively own a portfolio of eight district heating and cooling systems across the Northeast and Midwest, from Basalt Infrastructure Partners II LP and DCO Energy, LLC.
  • Termo Caribe on the refinancing of a 57 MW dual-fuel power plant, located in Santa Rosa, Bolivar, Colombia.
  • The sponsors and the project company in connection with a financing of up to USD53m to increase access to logistics services in Lima, Peru, through a new industrial park built in the Ventanilla district in the Constitutional Province of Callao. This groundbreaking project is the first sustainable logistics park in Peru.
  • A group of global financial institutions, as lenders on the term loan and pre-hedge breakage cost letter of credit to ZEMOBILITY L1 SpA to fund the acquisition of 144 e-buses for the Transantiago public transit system in Santiago, Chile (“Condor III”).
  • Colombian hotel group, Grupo Decameron, and its subsidiaries in connection with a secured syndicated loan facility for an amount of USD138m divided in USD68m and COP306.6bn (equivalent to USD70m), for the refinancing of existing debt.
  • A division of a multinational utility company and Axium Infrastructure as sponsors and the project company on the additional 4(a)(2) private placement note issuance to fund ongoing capital improvements of the utility system for Georgetown University.
  • Data center financing in Chile with a subsidiary of EdgeConneX as borrower and Natixis as lender.
  • Termo Caribe S.A.S. E.S.P. on the project financing of the construction of a 57 MW dual fuel power generating facility located in Bolivar, Colombia. The Termo Caribe structure benefits from back-up power PPAs. Named 2022 Latin America Power Deal of the Year by IJGlobal.

Pro bono

  • Rendered advisory on corporate governance, insolvency, directors’ liability, donations, contractual matters, public procurement, and dissolution and liquidation of Colombian NPOs. Instructed seminars and workshops addressed to Colombian NPOs on such topics. 
  • Audited and diagnosed the corporate government of a renowned Colombian NPO focused on promoting constitutional initiatives/human rights. Elaborated legal memoranda for diagnosing the corporate government of several Colombian NPOs.
