Previous law firm experience includes advising: 

• A State entity regarding a AUD 1.2 billion dispute arising in relation to a hospital project in Perth, Western Australia. Issues in dispute arose from breach of contract claims for delay, variations and defects arising during construction of the hospital. The matter was heard in the Supreme Court of Western Australia, and settled on favourable terms. 
• A State-owned petroleum company regarding key risks and issues on a project development program for a petroleum facility in the Middle East. Further advised on EPC contract provisions relating to extension of time, variations, change in law, force majeure and dispute resolution through arbitration. 
• A developer in relation to payment disputes and breach of contract claims regarding unfinished works and defects on a resort project in Dubai. The matter was resolved by DIAC arbitration, seated in Dubai. 
• An international contractor in relation to large scale redevelopment works in Mecca, Kingdom of Saud Arabia. Advised on variation, delay and disruption claims related to changes in legislation and the impacts of COVID-19. 
• A project principal against a global architectural company in relation to defects in the design of a shopping mall in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The matter was the subject of mediation, which proceeded to ICC arbitration. 
• Multiple international contractors against a State entity in relation to separate contracts for construction of a USD 11 billion nationwide rail network in the United Arab Emirates. Advised on claims relating to omissions and variations. 
• An international contractor in relation to a dispute arising from a project in the Garraf oilfield, Iraq. Advised on claims relating to suspension of works due to COVID-19. 
• An international contractor consortium in relation to a AUD 2.5 billion dispute arising from construction of a power plant for a LNG facility in the Northern Territory, Australia. The matter was subject to ICC arbitration proceedings seated in Singapore, and was settled on favourable terms. 

Mining and energy related disputes

A&O Shearman and previous firm experience includes advising:  

• An international oil and gas company in relation to various disputes arising from an alleged failure to meet supply obligations under a gas sale and purchase agreement. The matter is the subject of ACICA arbitration proceedings.
• A State-owned international mining company regarding a dispute arising in relation to a contract for mining exploration in the Republic of Congo. The matter was resolved by HKIAC arbitration, seated in Hong Kong.
• An international contractor consortium regarding a claim for wrongful termination in relation to a salt mine project in Laos. The matter was resolved by VIAC arbitration, seated in Vietnam.
