Garrett is a member of the Markets Innovation Group, a group of lawyers and developers who are focused on the creation of innovative solutions for clients to meet large-scale legal and regulatory challenges.

Garrett is a core member of A&O Shearman’s AI Group, a global team of lawyers advising G-SIFIs, life sciences, private capital firms, media companies, and other large corporates on legal and regulatory issues relating to generative AI. Garrett has a particular focus on advising businesses on how to manage legal risk and regulatory compliance through effective AI policies and governance. 

As a member of the Markets Innovation Group, Garrett has been instrumental in developing AI-driven solutions like ContractMatrix and played a key role in the firm’s use of generative AI via Harvey. As part of his work with the Markets Innovation Group, Garrett has experience creating and developing a number of tech-focused client solutions, with a particular focus on AI-enabled platforms for scalable document digitisation.

Garrett advises clients on both domestic and international M&A and Private Equity transactions as well as various fintech and digital asset services. His work on acquisition, divestiture, joint ventures, cryptocurrency issues and general corporate counseling, as well as his background as a Certified Public Accountant, inform his work on assessing and developing new technologies. 

Garrett is admitted to practice in Texas and received his BS and MS from the University of Texas at Dallas and his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is a Texas licensed CPA and an adjunct professor of business law at the University of Texas at Dallas.

  • Areas Worldwide, a portfolio company of PAI Partners, in its acquisition of Travel Hospitality Services a U.S.-based airport food, beverage and retail concessions business.
  • Forest Road Acquisition Corp. II (NYSE: FRXB) in its proposed business combination with Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, Inc., a leading transportation and technology licensing company focused on realizing the hyperloop.
  • RedBird Capital Partners and its portfolio companies in various matters, including:
    - its investment in Verijet, a Part-135 charter operator focused on light jets.
  • RedStorm’s initial equity financing of AEXA Digital Infrastructure.
  • Braemont Capital in various matters, including:
    - its acquisition of Loenbro, LLC, a provider of highly technical, specialized services to the data center, infrastructure and diversified industrial markets, from Tailwind Capital.
    - its USD125 million investment in Incline P&C Group, a premier insurance program market services firm.
  • Rhodium Enterprises, Inc. on its proposed listing on NASDAQ through its definitive merger agreement with SilverSun Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SSNT)
  • Lux Vending LLC dba Bitcoin Depot® in its business combination with GSR II Meteora Acquisition Corp. (NASDAQ: GSRM), a special purpose acquisition company.
  • A subsidiary of a global financial institution in its acquisition of a majority stake in Crowley Wind Services, a leader in offshore wind energy solutions in the United States.
  • ORIX Capital Partners in its acquisitions of Specialty Welding and Turnarounds, LLC (SWAT), a petrochemical and oil and gas refinery turnaround services company; and SWAT’s add-on acquisition of Midwest Cooling Tower Services, LLC.
