Shearman & Sterling has advised clients on more than $70 billion worth of energy deals so far this year, ranking 4th by deal value through Nov. 17, 2023, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

The outstanding achievements of the firm’s Global Energy Group are a testament to the work of an experienced, full-service integrated team of attorneys engaged in transactions across the worldwide energy spectrum – oil & gas, conventional electricity generation, renewable energies and nuclear.

Over the past year, Shearman & Sterling has represented energy industry clients in a series of large and complex deals involving project finance, M&A, capital markets and restructuring as well as dispute work: antitrust, international arbitration and commercial litigation.

Global energy deals in 2023 include:

  • Volta Inc. in its acquisition by Shell USA
  • Dover Corp. in its $530 million acquisition of FW Murphy Production Controls
  • Cardinal Midstream Partners in its acquisition of Medallion Delaware Basin
  • Carbon Engineering in its $1.1 billion acquisition by Occidental Petroleum Corp.
  • Antitrust aspects of Chevron Corp.’s $53 billion acquisition of Hess Corp.

Shearman & Sterling launched an Energy Innovation Hub, a digital resource that includes articles, events and news that highlights the firm’s technical expertise and deal experience in technologies that are transforming the energy, industrial and transport landscapes.

The hub highlights the firm’s work in M&A transactions in Hydrogen; Carbon Capture, Usage and Sequestration (CCUS); Energy Storage, and Green Industry (green steel, aluminum, ammonia, cement and mining).
