A&O Shearman has announced that Clayton James will join the firm as a corporate and M&A partner in Sydney, enhancing the firm’s private equity offering in Australia.

This strategic hire marks a significant step in expanding the firm’s corporate practice and private equity focus to meet growing client demand for sophisticated cross-border and domestic transactional advice.

Clayton brings extensive experience advising on private equity and venture capital transactions, and public and private mergers and acquisitions. He has a proven track record of advising on some of Australia’s most significant and complex transactions across multiple sectors including energy transition, technology, business and professional services, transport and defence.

Clayton will be joining A&O Shearman from Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, where he is currently a partner and a senior member of the private equity team in Sydney.
