Allianz to acquire HSBC Life Singapore

Allianz to acquire HSBC Life Singapore
A&O Shearman has advised Allianz on its agreement to acquire HSBC Life Singapore for SGD2.7 billion, alongside its entry into a long-term bancassurance partnership with HSBC Bank Singapore. The Transaction was signed on July 24, 2026 and closing is expected in the first half of 2027, subject to obtaining the relevant approvals from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

The acquisition positions Allianz to strengthen its presence in Singapore's life and health insurance market and deepen its well established regional distribution partnership with HSBC. The transaction also reflects the continued push for investment in Asia's insurance sector, as insurers seek to expand their product offerings and distribution networks to meet evolving customer needs.

The A&O Shearman team was led by Singapore-based partners James Mythen and Ayesha Thapar, with the support of a core team comprising Saranpaal Calais, Shuhui Kwok, Zann Tay, Claire Lye, Samantha Ang, Keith Wong, and Elizabeth Chin. They were assisted by a multi-disciplinary regional team including regulatory, tax, antitrust, IP, and litigation specialists across Asia-Pacific and Europe, including tax partners Ka Sen Wong (Sydney), and Tim Drach (Frankfurt). Additional support came from associates and counsel in Singapore, Sydney, London, Frankfurt, Shanghai, Jakarta, and Bangkok, as well as the firm’s Advanced Delivery team in Perth.
