EU confirms UK adequacy decisions under EU GDPR and Law Enforcement Directive
On December 19, 2025, the European Commission renewed its adequacy decisions for the free flow of personal data to the UK under both the EU GDPR and the Law Enforcement Directive.

The renewal of these adequacy decisions comes after a six-month extension period under the 2021 adequacy decisions to enable the European Commission to consider the implications of the UK data protection reforms under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.

The adequacy decisions now apply until December 27, 2031, at which point they may be renewed again. The EU Commission and European Data Protection Board (EDPB) will review the adequacy decisions after a period of four years.

The press release and renewal decisions are available here.
