Shamik has nearly two decades of international experience within financial services (investment banking, capital markets, market infrastructure) via three dimensions – as a regulator (having led teams to supervise several firms including systemically important firms), as a COO/business manager within investment banks, and as a consultant. 

He has extensive experience working with Tier 1 global financial institutions as well as smaller firms, including startups, to help senior management align their business strategy with the regulatory agenda. His experience covers change/transformation as well as BaU roles as a COO/business manager within Global Markets.

Prior to joining A&O Shearman, Shamik worked at the Financial Services Authority as a Lead Supervisor, Nomura Europe (EMEA CEO’s Office + Office of EMEA Head of Markets), HSBC (Office of CEO of Global Markets), Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets, Credit Agricole – Corporate & Investment Bank. Shamik’s experience covers the Dodd-Frank implementation (Swap Dealer), EMIR, MiFID II, Brexit and LIBOR Transition. He also has a special focus on Front Office Supervision and Trading Controls (first line of defence), having designed and implemented the framework from scratch at two global investment banks.

Representative matters

Working on the A&O and Shearman & Sterling proposed merger, as part of the internal team looking at merger strategy and post-merger integration.

Leading and overseeing the LIBOR transition engagement at a global Tier 1 Universal Bank, covering risk management and transformation in relation to LIBOR cessation.

Designed the operating framework for the cessation of LIBOR tenors and switching to alternative reference rate across Institutional Clients & Retail Clients business lines.

Led the global review and analysis of risks arising out of the LIBOR transition and developing mitigating processes.

Created submissions for global regulators + Group ExCo/Board of the bank.

Review of the front office supervision and control framework for two Tier 1 Investment Banks, working for the CEO of Global Markets.

Developed the Brexit strategy, including target op model & licence application for a new EU entity, for 2 of the big 4 UK banks.

Designed the front office risk & control supervisory framework for the Global Markets division of a large EU-headquartered bank.

Developed strategy for an Asian headquartered bank looking to expand its capital markets business in London.

Designed and implemented cost efficiency initiatives (including offshoring model, cross-business operating efficiencies) at a global Tier 1 Universal Bank.
